Today, the measures outlined in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts (PCSC) Bill, which passed in the last session of Parliament, have come into effect. Cllr Ben Bradley MP has welcomed this bill coming into force in order to help better protect the residents of Mansfield and Warsop and make Mansfield's streets safer.
The PCSC Bill included a number of vital measures in order to ensure public safety. This includes the introduction of whole-life orders for the most serious offences, such as pre-meditated murder of children and ending the automatic early release of offenders deemed a danger to the public.
This Bill also helps to better protect the victims of crime, ensuring they have more time to seek the justice they deserve. An example of this is domestic abuse victims will now have more time to report incidents of common assault or battery.
Cllr Ben Bradley MP was quoted as saying:
'The government fought hard over the last Parliament to pass this really vital bill for our public safety and security. As such, I am delighted to see the measures outlined in the bill finally come into force.'
