Mansfield MP Ben Bradley has welcomed the announcement that Mansfield District Council is set to receive £405,474 in funding from central government as part of the Supported Housing Improvement Programme.
This programme has been put in place by government to help support Local Authorities address poor-quality supported housing in their area, and to drive up the standard of local housing stock. Local authority’s bid for funding form this programme and those bids that demonstrated a clear impact on the authority, as a result of poor housing in their area, were prioritised.
Many organisations in the supported housing sector provide essential services and high levels of support, however there have been a growing number of examples where landlords have failed to provide adequate support, despite claiming the higher rent subsidy. This is why government has provided this funding to local authorities to help them drive out these unscrupulous landlords from the supported housing sector.
Ben Bradley MP stated:
‘The quality of local supported housing is something that can really impact on local authorities in terms of their budgets and the capacity of local social services to support those people living in the housing when needed.’
‘As such, I am really pleased that we have been given this money to improve our local supported housing stock across Mansfield and Warsop. Such improvements will help reduce this burden on the local authority and local services, freeing up further capacity for people with the most urgent need.’
‘I would like to thank the government for providing this funding and setting up the Supported Housing Improvement Programme. I look forward to seeing this money being put to use locally
